Diego Rivera Detroit Industry Murals 2009 Wall Calendar
| |
During the Great Depression, Mexican artist Diego Rivera (1886-1957) was commissioned to paint a twenty-seven-panel mural for the walls of the Garden Court at the Detroit Institute of Arts. A vast Ford factory inspired the images in the resulting Detroit Industry (1932-1933), which the artist considered his career's best work. This calendar features twenty-three full-color overviews and details of the powerful work, plus preliminary drawings by Rivera, black-and-white photographs of Rivera and his wife, Frida Kahlo, during his work on the murals, and before-and-after photographs of the Garden Court.
